Early Childhood Tooth Decay
What Causes Tooth Decay?
A kid’s first trip to the dentist must be enjoyable and a memorable one. Babies are not born with a natural fright of the dentist, but they can be scared of the unknown. Our dental office makes the extra effort to use non-frightening, pleasant, simple words to describe every treatment process. We absolutely want you and your kid to feel comfortable from the very moment your family steps into our office. The more you and your kid know about the first trip to our dentist, the better you will feel.
What Is Early Childhood Tooth Decay?
Toddlers, who go to bed with a bottle of juice, milk, or formula, have more tendencies to get tooth decay. Since the sugar present in milk, formula, or juice comes and stays in contact with the teeth for a very long time during bedtime, the teeth can decay very fast.
A Few Tips To Avoid Early Childhood Tooth Decay
- Try to put your kid to bed with a bottle containing plain water, not juice or milk.
- Stop yourself from nursing when your kid is asleep or has completely stopped sucking on the bottle.
- Make sure that your kid does not walk around using a bottle of juice or milk as a pacifier.
- Begin from now on to teach your kid to drink from a cup when he/she is about six months of age. Try to stop using a bottle when your kid reaches 12 to 14 months at the latest.
- Never dip your kid’s pacifier in sugar or honey.
What Is Fluoride?
Fluoride is the mineral that is present in your kid’s teeth that tries to prevent the formation of cavities. As per the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Fluoride is really effective in combating caries. The topical use of Fluoride at our San Diego office can help your toddler avoid oral cavities.
