Periodontal Disease Treatment

What is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal disease is actually an infection that occurs in the gums. If kept untreated, it can gradually damage your original teeth. It may even result in other severe oral problems. Various types of the periodontal disease need various treatments depending on the particular needs. Plaque buildup is the number one cause of the periodontal problem in susceptible individuals. Maintaining a proper dental care regime like daily brushing and flossing can help stop periodontal disease.

Gingivitis

You must know that both periodontal disease and tooth decay occur because of harmful bacteria that are found in the plaque (a thin yellow layer that always forms on your gums or in between your teeth). It keeps on forming on your teeth and can be eliminated daily with flossing, brushing, etc. So, maintaining a proper oral regimen is crucial if you wish to remove the risks of suffering from gum diseases.

Periodontitis

Toxins are released by bacteria that are present in dental plaque. It can disturb your gum tissue and result in redness, swelling and bleeding of the gums. If this issue is left untreated, the gum tissue will become inflamed and sore to the touch or brushing. You will notice that your gums are bleeding when you brush or floss your teeth. Eventually the bone and supporting tissues will start to deteriorate causing severe bone loss around the teeth causing loosening of teeth and subsequent tooth loss. Once periodontal disease reaches advanced stages, the teeth are no longer salvageable and need to be extracted due to severe infection.

Toxins or poison are released by bacteria that can be present in plaque. It can disturb your gum tissue and result in redness, swelling, or even bleeding. If this issue is left untreated for a long period, gum pockets are probably to develop. After some time, the bone or the supporting tissues will slowly start to damage and further deteriorate. This could eventually result in tooth loss in the future years.
